Golf Swing Trainers Are A Dime A Dozen

Mike Pedersen asked:

The golf training aid market is a booming market. Golfers are rabid and will pay any amount of money in hopes to play better golf. There is a new golf swing trainer coming out every month it seems like!

Golf swing trainers are any device that will take you through the correct golf swing mechanics to help you repeat a golf swing that will hold up for 18 holes. With the glut of training aids for golf hitting the market by the day, it is easy to open up your wallet in hopes for a better swing.

I am not against the use of training aids, but am a little skeptical with all the promises some of them make during their commercials or in their print ads. They all promise more distance, accuracy and lower scores. Isn’t that “old hat” now? Longer yards, lower scores and better overall performance? You see it on every magazine cover…and hear it on golf broadcasts daily.

Here’s the kicker!

There are several “tried-and-true” golf swing trainers I still use today that I got over 8 years ago! You heard that right. Over 8 years and still good. When my swing starts to go south, I dust them off, and use them for a week or two until I get my swing back on track.

Works like a charm!

If your money is burning a hole in your pocket, the most important thing to look for is what the swing trainer actually does. Is it close to actual movement of a golf swing? Does it seem logical for your golf swing fault? Is it reasonably priced? Can you try it first before you buy it?

There are several out there right now that do not mimic the golf swing and ingrain poor swing mechanics and improper muscle memory habits. I will not bad-mouth that they are, but if it doesn’t closely resemble a mechanically sound golf swing, it is not worth spending the money on.

Results! The bottom line!

In the end…did it improve your particular swing fault? Were you able to take it to the course and actually make good swings for 18 holes? So many times golfers buy these golf swing trainers, use them a couple of times, and never see results.

I can’t figure that out. Why would you ever spend your hard-earned money, and not make good use of that purchase? I don’t want to say I have never done this, but I am sure as heck more aware of the money I spend now and how kind of return on investment I’m getting.

Put this statement in your brain…”you cannot ever blame the training aid if you don’t use it!”

Like anything…do it consistently to give it a fair chance. Make a point to use it daily at first. Most of things swing trainers can be used right in your home or even your office, so it’s very convenient to use.

Golf Training Aids and How to Buy Them

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

Max Johnson asked:

As many of us do, we go through cyberspace looking for the correct golf training aids to help our golf games. If you are here looking for great golf advice, then you should count yourself lucky. This article is written by someone who has taught golf for a living for 20+ years and will help you begin your search to find good golf instruction aids that will help you lower your golf scores no matter whether you are having trouble with a golf slice or a hook shot or a reverse pivot.

In this article, we will not provide specific “how-to” swing advice about how to improve your game. However, it will provide you the necessary advice on how to search for golf swing information as well as the right golf instruction aids. In turn, you will be able use these tips and aids to improve your game. When reading information online it is very necessary that you know that it is coming from a reputable source such as a PGA professional and not someone who is not properly been trained the mechanics of the golf swing or how to teach the mechanics of the golf swing. Yes, they are two different things.

After seeing a PGA Professional and you figure out which golf training aids will benefit you the most, it would be a good idea to visit many of the online stores. You can simply type in the name of the golf instruction aid and you will have multiple pages of information to choose from. After checking pricing as well as shipping costs, you can then buy what you are looking for. Again, make sure that you buy these products from recommended vendors that sell the best of golf instruction aids to those that need them to improve their game.

Many websites provide free articles or information about golf instruction and tips. Keep in mind that some of these are very good and some are downright horrible and provide information which will actually hinder you as opposed to help you improve your golf game. Be aware of who the author is and what type of certification he or she has with the golf swing and teaching the golf swing. The more that you read, the quality of the written content of the site or blog you are visiting will be made clear after reading just a short piece of the material.

Again, many informative golf websites exist in the midst of cyberspace and many of these websites provide golf swing instruction and tips. You will be able to find information on anything that is causing you to slice, hook or reverse pivot during your swing. You can also find reviews on golf equipment and how to get a proper golf club fitting for any new golf equipment that you purchase. You can also research online many golf training aids and which may be helpful in your quest to improve your golf game. You will find many lessons on the Internet which will help you to lower your scores and have more fun.

Improve Your Play with the Right Golf Exercises

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

Jameson Meer asked:

Talent has very little to do with being the best golfer in your club. Becoming a champion golfer all boils down to practice and determination. Of course, routine golf exercises ensure that you are in perfect physical shape to perform your swings, add power to your shots, and more. Most who indulge in this sport tend to make do with what they have, allowing no room for improvement and eventually ruining the experience.

Reason For The Exercise

One of the most important components of golf is muscle power. Unlike other sports, where speed and balance are important aspects, golf requires you to have enough strength on your arms to add power to your swing for the duration of the game. It wouldn’t do you any good to go all out at the beginning only to get tired after a few holes.

Aside from muscle stamina, golf exercises also aim to increase your flexibility and tolerance for motion. Doing backswings with a stiff body will not give you enough power for a good shot. Imagine yourself as a spring — the more power you give out, the more you wind yourself in.

Another reason why you need proper golf training exercise is to improve your lower back. Despite the need to be flexible and improve muscle strength and stamina, it is necessary to get your lower back in proper shape. This guarantees that you won’t suffer from joint pains when you bend for the shot or flex for the swing.

Some Exercises to Try Out

The basic golf stretch is one of the most common exercises performed by avid golfers. Do it with low-weight high-rep exercises to improve your core. Keep in mind, however, that being too relaxed with your training will not get you anywhere. It’s best if you build up your determination and drive first so you find yourself actively seeing through the entire golfing experience until the very end.

There are three basic areas targeted by golf exercises — your swing, your muscle stamina, and your core. Each has its own specific elements that require development. For example, your swing can be improved with an exercise called a lunge twist. Cardiovascular and stretching improves your core, muscle stamina, and flexibility.

If all these activities sound like a chore, keep in mind that you don’t have to do these exercises everyday. At least 3 times a week should be enough to get you going and pumped up. Start with small exercises that fit your initial endurance level and then improve and add more as you go along.

Why Use A Golf Training Device?

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010
golf training
christian abad asked:

We Americans like our gadgets, systems and even sleep aid devices. Why then would golf training devices be any different? Let’s take a look at the game and a few of the golf training devices that are available.

The Goal

‘What’s the goal?’ is a relevant question to ask your self, unless it’s just a one day outing to get some fresh air with friends. Even then, you may want to know what to expect when your partner pulls out the latest gadget. Actually, golf training devices are inherent in the game.

Casual golfers typically like to get to the course, move around a little, visit with friends and if the game goes well – so be it! The casual golfer still wants a good pair of shades, maybe a visor and clubs that will make it through nine to eighteen holes.

The avid golfer starts to pay more attention to form, technique and performance and here’s where the gadgets really start to come into play. Enter the golf training device.

What’s Out There?

Specialty clubs are designed to move the ball down the course, providing more control or distance. Drivers are particularly prone to redesign. It is probably a natural response to the millions of dollars spent on this game so popularized by movies, where golf and business become bed-fellows, spawning all the while those wild schemes of money-making and political import. Well, maybe that’s a little overdone; that’s Hollywood!

Meanwhile, out on the practice tee, there’s a driver that pivots to show you where and how your personal glitch is manifesting. Then there are putters – the ultimate golf training device. They are shaped peculiarly, weighted extensively and made of every known metal on the planet, just to help shave a stroke or two.

There are special shoes, gloves, belts, balls with a Nike® logo, drivers, putters and everything in between. Most have some merit but you have to do your research and find what works for you. If that’s not enough, you can video your swing and have it analyzed.

One At A Time

I suggest you first commit a few bucks and spend an hour with a golf profession. This can in a very short time point you in a couple directions that might yield great results. Target those areas one at a time – with or without golf training devices – and then give it a little time to sink in. Assimilating new information, systems and techniques deserves that much. Use your golf training devices wisely and improvement will show itself. Enjoy the show!

I’m sorry this showed up in the golf section. Hope someone can answer!

I’m 16 and I’m getting my driving “lessons” online, I’m not attending driving school, unless that’s cheaper, overall.

Pro Golf Swing Aids

Friday, April 16th, 2010
golf training
Richard Knight asked:

The first golf swing aid is the weighted club. This instrument is two to five pounds heavier than what you normally use when you play golf. Why this is so useful is the fact that it helps you practice your swing in slow-mo so you get the correct form and do this properly during the tournament.

If you are like some golfers who have a hard time keeping their arms together during the course of the swing, you will find the stretchable arm band very useful. This should be placed in between your triceps so that you are forming the letter “V” from the moment you start your swing until the follow through.

How you hold the golf club is also important in the game. You should not hold it too tight and something that can help you do that is the golf grip. The nice thing about this device is that it fits all kinds of clubs. It is made of plastic so you can easily take it off and remove. If your hands are slippery, try putting on some golfing clubs.

Sometimes, your upper body is not the problem when you are trying to do your best in the game. Perhaps, your footing is what needs to be improved on and for that, the foot wedge was invented so for you right handed players out there, your weight is on your fight foot.

Apart from golf swing aids which you use on the green, there are other materials which you can use at home. You can buy a golf DVD and then try to practice what you learn by following what the person is saying.

There is also the mirror so you can watch yourself swing. If it is hard to swing at a ball and observe yourself in the mirror, get a video recorder and then play it back when you are done. Now you have a golf training video.

If you can afford to hire someone as a coach, that will be great because you get feedback from that person instead of second guessing if what you did in the mirror or golf training video is correct.

Golf training program s may be done regularly but how often does it happen where you live? The golf swing aids mentioned can easily be purchased from the sporting goods store. Most of these are sold for under $20 so it will not hurt your pocket so much just to improve your game.

Should the golf swing aids mentioned be not available in the store, check for these items online. It is possible that they are much cheaper here even if you add shipping costs so check what is available.

There are many brands to choose from that sell these various golf swing aids. Before you buy one, check if this is saleable compared to other brands.

If the feedback given by other golf enthusiasts are good, try it out yourself and see if this can improve your game or not. Don’t forget to practice because the golf swing aids can only do so much when what really matters is how well do without them during a game. A good golf training program is great place to start if you need quick improvement.

Golf Fitness Exercises for the Pre-season

Monday, April 12th, 2010
golf training
Sean Cochran asked:

Golf fitness exercises can be very beneficial in getting you ready for the upcoming golf season. Golf exercises with swing drills can prepare you for a successful year on the links right from the start.

The PGA Golf Tour is in full swing and for many parts of the country and world the golf season is upon us. Many of you are anxious to dust off the golf clubs and get out to the golf course for your first round of golf. A question that may be on your mind is how do I get ready? How do I knock off 6 months of rust on my golf swing, feel comfortable with my driver on the first tee, and post a good golf score at the end of the round?

All questions that are asked often in the world of professional golf and this article will provide you with the answers. Answers to these questions and many more fall under the category of how do I prepare myself for the golf season?

Interesting enough if the guidelines from this article are followed the golf score you post for your first round of the year may be lower than you ever expected, the distance of your drives may well be farther than you imagined, and the number of accurate golf shots you hit may be even more surprising!

The answer to all the questions on how to get ready for the upcoming golf season centers on preparation. Preparation is the key to a successful first round of golf and every round you play in the upcoming golf season.

We all probably understand the definition of preparation but lets take a quick look in order for us to all be on the same page. Preparation can be defined as the work or planning involved in making something or somebody ready or putting something together in advance (Encarta Dictionary, MSN.com).

A definition that sheds light on getting ready for the upcoming golf season. Using the above definition we can see the process of preparing for the upcoming golf season does not begin 10 minutes before your first tee time, but rather in advance of when you get ready to hit driver off the first tee. Bottom line the process of getting ready for the upcoming golf season begins weeks or even months before your’ first round of golf of the year.

To have a successful first round of golf and a good season of golf you must begin the process of preparation well in advance of your first time on the golf course. If you look at professional golfers they begin the process of preparing for the upcoming golf season months in advanced. I would suggest doing the same. Develop a plan that will get your golf swing ready once the snow thaws, the birds are chirping, and the greens are ready for putting.

What does such a plan contain? This type of “golf preparation plan” would contain drills, exercises, and programs to improve and prepare every aspect of your golf game. If we break down the game of golf into categories the “golf program” becomes much easier to understand. Obviously, we have the different shots made on the course. A brief breakdown would indicate the need to implement swing drills to work on the full swing, short game, and putting. We could obviously get a little more detailed than a breakdown of the golf game into three different categories, but lets’ keep it simple.

Now that we have this breakdown of the game of golf into full swing, short game, and putting the next step is to implement a series of drills to work on each of these aspects. Simply put I would suggest devising a series of drills to work on each part of the golf game/swing. This can easily be accomplished by purchasing a few books or videos from one of the top-teaching professionals in the world of golf.

Each one of these qualified golf instructors have numerous materials available to help you with your golf swing. And if you are one of those individuals that lives in a cold climate and is unable to get to a driving range or practice facility, no need to worry. Most all of the instructional videos/books available have drills that can be performed in the comfort of your own home.

At this point we have a couple of bases covered in the “preparation plan” for the upcoming golf season. We understand preparation is key to a successful year on the golf course, the “preparation plan” begins well in advance of the first tee time of the year, and a portion of the plan consists of swing drills. This brings us to final part of your “preparation plan” for the upcoming golf season.

This part of the plan centers on the implementation of golf fitness exercises to go along with your swing drills. We must understand the concept of your body and the golf swing. The golf swing is executed in its’ entirety by your body. In order for your body to execute the golf swing correctly. It requires you to have certain levels of flexibility, balance, strength, endurance, and power within it. If you are lacking in any one of these physical areas compensations will occur in your golf swing.

It comes down to this: In order to be prepared for the upcoming golf season and to improve your golf swing. The implementation of golf fitness exercises geared towards developing your body around the golf swing is necessary. This type of program will prepare the body for the golf swing and the upcoming golf season.

To summarize, the process of preparing yourself for the upcoming golf season begins with a “preparation plan”. This plan begins weeks to months in advance of your first time out on the golf course. Additionally, this “preparation plan” for the upcoming golf season contains a series of golf training drills to prepare your golf swing. The golf training drills break down the golf game into three sections; full swing, short game, and putting. A series of swing drills are implemented to work on each one of these parts of your golf game. In addition golf fitness exercises are implemented into the golf-training program to develop your body around your golf swing. Put all these pieces together and your first time out on the golf course this year should be an enjoyable one.
