How To Improve Your Golf Swing-And How Not To

Rick Greene asked:

One of the problems that I see a lot on the golf course is someone who is trying to improve their golf swing and tries to take every bit of advice that they hear. There are many different opinions on the perfect golf swing and if you listen to all of them you get conflicting advice. This can do more harm than good.

If you are new to golf then I suggest you go take a lesson from an instructor with a good reputation before you ever attempt to play golf. It is very easy to pick up bad habits if you try to figure it all out on your own. If you take a lesson when first starting, you will learn good golf technique before you pick up these bad habits.

There are a lot of golf training videos and many other training programs out there and if you listen to all of them you will probably never get good at golf. I’m not saying that there aren’t a lot of good lessons to be had but there are so many different ideas on what will make you a better golfer that you can easily get information overload and that can be counter-productive. Pick one golf training exercise and stay with it.

Practice what you learn at home and at the driving range until it becomes second nature to you. I don’t mean practice for ten minutes before you head to the links, I mean set aside some time to practice every day. Many parts of a program don’t require you to actually hit a ball.

Practice the grip that they show you. Put the club down, pick it up and grip it correctly. Do this over and over because you don’t ride around the golf course with a club gripped in your hands. You need to grip it every shot, right?

Practice your stance and any exercises the program suggests to do it properly.

There are loads of information and golf training material on the market. Pick one and practice it again and again. If you haven’t improved by the end of a golf season then you may want to consider something else but do yourself a favor and give your chosen golf training material a fair chance before you move on to something else.

The Secrets of the Swingyde Golf Training Aid

Ray Davidson asked:

I have been playing golf for years and have tried all sorts of swing aids and paid out thousands of dollars in coaching so when a friend of mine suggested trying out the Golf Swingyde training aid, I gave him a sceptical look and mumbled some derisive comments under my breath! The sheer thought of trying another contraption that was meant to somehow transform me into a “World Class Golfer” in a matter of minutes as just beyond a joke. Things became even more hilarious when he pulled this yellow bit of plastic and an elastic band from his pocket and suggested that I give it a whirl.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, he talked me into giving up 5 minutes and a couple of my practice balls by telling me that I would be amazed by the difference in my swing after few drives using the Swingyde golf training aid.

So, I reluctantly took the Swingyde and attached it to my golf club and headed over to the practice range clutching an elastic band in my other hand. My friend explained to me that the idea of the Swingyde is that it keeps your arms and wrists in the correct position to maintain a perfect swing arc. The real benefit is that if you use it regularly to practice then it can help you to develop the habit of keeping your arms and wrists in the correct position, even when you’re not using the Swingyde. On reaching the booth, and feeling a little silly, I through a few balls down on the ground and got into position.

First, I tried a few practice swings, without the elastic band in place. I just couldn’t yet bring myself to getting strapped into this little yellow piece of practice and thought that at least I no one would notice if I wasn’t physically attached to it! But, as a I swung, I found myself concentrating too much on the position of the Swingyde, rather than relaxing and allowing it to guide me though my swing. So, I finally gave in and attached the elastic band and I’m glad I did! The band helps to keep the Swingyde in position and when you bring your arms up to the top of the swing, the Swingyde just falls into place.

I am reluctant to admit that this unassuming piece of plastic could transform my swing quite so quickly but I have to say that I have never seen such an improvement in my game. From having a particularly bad day, slicing the golf ball all over the place, I went to driving the ball in a straight line over 200 yards – which is nothing short of a miracle for me! In my opinion, this little gadget is a god-send for golfers like me and I’ve since rushed out and purchased my very own Swingyde.

The Golf Training Aid Magic-Improving You’re Game Without Thinking!

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

Jock Mcdoogle asked:

How can you improve your game, eliminate those regular poor shots without thinking?

I want to ask you a question? ….which word best describes the way you learn a new task?

For me and I think for most people, that word is ‘IMITATION’! If you look at infants in their early years, the way they learn and pickup your habits for better or for worse are by imitating you! That’s the beauty of this skill which is genetically ingrained into us from birth. It transcends any language barrier!

That’s why I love the use of  golf training aids. Because that’s the way we have learnt new skills ever since our first steps in life. We as human beings learn best by imitation. We watch, imitate and repeat.

This is how we can improve on our game without being overwhelmed by countless swing thoughts.

For those of you who are not quite familiar with the term golf training aid, it is a device (and there are many to choose from) which will help you to swing the right way.

A golf training aid can get you swinging the right way by utilising Muscle Memory-in other words Imitating, without the mental overload of advice and tips coming in from all directions.

How many of you folks out there have a habit…whether good or bad? I know I have but ill never quit Hershey’s bars-never!

Now you know that a habit is the product of repetition continuously until it becomes automatic without thinking.

This is how a golf training aid works, it gets us swinging or putting the correct way until it becomes a habit with no need for overwhelming swing thoughts. And swinging well folks is a great habit to keep don’t you think?

Also, the beauty of golf training aids is that there are many types to choose from which target all the aspects of your game you may need to focus on, therefore satisfying your own personal requirements.

For example you may be having problems with and so need to correct your swing plane, your address to the ball, weight transfer, shoulder turn, wrist break, head movement, balance, putting and the list goes on.

So if your want to get your game back on track, by utilizing the skill nature has given us all – Imitation, then a golf training aid is the perfect partner for a better swing.

I wish you the greatest success on and off the course….Jock Mcdoogle

Golf Training Aids - Where to Find Golf Training Aids

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009
golf training
Maxx Johnson asked:

Maybe it is because I recently attended the annual PGA Merchandise Show but training aids for golf seem like they are never ending. Every single day someone claims that they have a better mouse trap for your full swing or how to improve your putting. As with anything you can find training aids very reasonably priced and the price range can go to as much as you want to or can spend.

If you are taking lessons, it is best to determine which training aids would be best for you to use with your golf instructor. This way you do not purchase a training aid that is trying to accomplish the exact opposite of what you need to do. Believe it or not it happens more often than you think. Your friend found a practice aid that worked for them and you run out to buy it not knowing that this particular practice aid will not allow you to achieve your goal.

Once you know which training aids will help you, where should you go to purchase them? Again you have many options. Here are just a few to get you started:

Golf Course

If you are already taking lessons from a golf professional, he or she more than likely has the ability to sell the practice aid. Since you are already taking multiple lessons from them, they might even offer you a discount to purchase the training aids through them and or their facility.

Golf Store

Whether you live close to one of the “big box” golf stores or you have a small local golf store close to you, they should have plenty of practice aids available. Typically, the big box stores will have a larger selection due to their sheer size and buying power. Unless you are looking for something very specific, you should be able to find the most popular training aids available no matter the size of the store.

Online Golf Shop

As you know by shopping online, you can easily compare prices among different stores. The product will be shipped directly to you and be ready for you to use. Do not think that you automatically will pay more for the product due to the shipping cost. Many of today’s vendors offer free shipping or a shipping charge of one flat rate. You will want to make sure that the site is a safe site by the seals that they display. Another advantage to shopping online is that you will be able to find the most obscure practice aids. This could be good or bad for you. It depends if you just keep surfing or you are able to make a decision. HAHA

You can easily find the training aids that you need at your regular golf course, a local golf shop or by finding an online retailer. Keep in mind that you must find the correct practice aids to help you and your golf swing or it will all be for naught and lead to being frustrated.

How did YOU improve your golf game?

AirDevil asked:

I have been playing a lot of golf this year (multiple rounds per week) and continue to struggle. I cannot seem to get any consistency in my shots even though I’m taking lessons. What I would like is to know how (what steps, training program, etc.) you took to improve your game?

I would like to ask that 20 handicaps or better only answer this questions.

Thanks
